About Empress Tallowah

Phindile who is now well known as “Empress Tallowah” was awarded a bursary to study drama at The National School of the Arts at the tender age of 12 years. She matriculated in 1999 with B’s in drama. Since completing her matric, she has worked with schools and non-profit organizations utilizing the creative arts to foster self-development and social transformation while encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance. She also uses the creative arts to heal and educate. She is a certified Theta Healer and Journey of my Soul facilitator. Empress Tallowah is the founder of Ark Soweto, AYG-Accept your Greatness programme, Tallowah Productions (Pty) Ltd, Soweto Creatives Academy and she is the South African ambassador for World Dream Day. She founded these to be able to work with communities by using the arts for healing and transformation.She has worked as a Facilitator for the Sibikwa Art Centre Artist in Schools programme and Soweto Theatre for their Lits’omong Youth Development Programme. She is an accredited creative arts facilitator by CATHSSETA. She completed her BA HONS Drama Therapy degree at the University of Witwatersrand. In April 2018 she was honoured with The Marshall Kander Drama for Life Award for outstanding research in HIV/AIDS through Applied Drama and Theatre, and in 2019 she was awarded the Post Merit Award which is a postgraduate scholarship. She is currently completing her MA degree in Drama Therapy. During the first year of her MA studies she was involved as a transformational facilitator using the arts with the Vincent Tshabalala Educational Trust and the Zanele Mbeki Development Trust. In 2021 she will officially publish her book titled “Settling in One’s Heart – Surviving the 2020 global pandemic!”. This book is an extension of the MA research she is conducting on the impact of the pandemic on the Master’s in Drama Therapy students in South Africa.
